Welcome to the early access release of Unicove 2.0. If you’re here, you’re probably a Unicove user who suddenly has a totally different user experience. If you’d like to know why this change occurred and what to expect, read on!
(Don’t worry: if you already miss the old version, it can now be found at v1.unicove.com)
Why is Unicove changing?
One of the goals of the recent EOS tokenomics revamp was to kickstart a new initiative towards “Middleware” development. This type of development is focused on the tools between you (the user) and the EOS blockchain, in an effort to make the blockchain more accessible and easier to use.
Achieving this goal isn’t restricted to efforts on any single project, but instead the effort is distributed across dozens of different systems and tools.
Since starting these efforts earlier this summer, one of the projects our team has been working on is the creation of an “EOS Portal”, a type of homepage for the blockchain itself. Something to give brand new users a definitive starting point in the ecosystem, providing all the tools and information they need to easily get started with EOS. It’s this sort of platform that serves as the glue to bind all the other systems together, a platform which has traditionally been missing in the EOS ecosystem.
We took ideas from the old web wallet project we started in 2020 called Unicove, reimagined it, and built it from the ground up with modern technologies to serve this new purpose.
Launching into early access
Due to recent events in the EOS ecosystem and the immediate needs of the users of our community, we decided to launch this app before we consider it to be complete.
Many features are still in development, it’s missing some data and visualizations, the user interfaces need refinement and there will likely be bugs. (Bonus points if you open an issue on our github page. Extra bonus points if you submit a PR!)
That’s why there are no official announcements right now and this is considered an early access release. We’re nowhere near done and will continue to improve everything you see on the site over the next few months.
With that being said, today marks the early access release of Unicove 2.0, representing a significant upgrade to the app and its functionality!
Features available today
What Unicove 2.0 offers today is the ability to login with most EOS-compatible wallets and leverage automatic resource management to:
- View information about your account.
- Send and receive tokens.
- Stake and unstake tokens.
- Buy and sell RAM via the RAM Market.
- Search for accounts, blocks, contracts, keys, and transactions.
And for all you power users in the ecosystem we have tools for:
- Managing CPU/NET resources.
- Viewing data and directly interacting with Contracts.
Leaving early access into an official release
For the remainder of the year we will work on completing and releasing a number of other features, including but not limited to:
- A redesign of the account overview page.
- Improvements when viewing account activity.
- Adding data to the homepage to give an overview of the network.
- Improving UX/UI and adding information to explain various systems.
- Support for MetaMask throughout the app.
- Integration of a new account creation system to onboard new users.
- Adding additional language support for Chinese and Korean.
Many of these features have been in development for a while now and will be completed soon, marking the transition out of this early access phase.
2025 and beyond
Beyond what’s outlined above and as we continue work into 2025, we’ve identified dozens of other important features that still need to be added. This initial early access version is just the beginning of a live product that will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of the network.
We will provide more information as the project progresses, and you can expect an “official” launch announcement of Unicove 2.0 once the MetaMask integration is complete.
